In this mandatory two-part session, elementary principals and one designated social studies teacher per campus will explore how Civics Training Programs support informed American patriotism and the close study of the founding documents of the United States and Texas. Required under Senate Bill 3, this training strengthens the skills and knowledge Texas educators need to lead high-quality civics instruction. Participants will engage in two connected sessions- Part 1 followed by Part 2 the next day-designed to build expertise that carries directly into the classroom. By the end of this session, teachers will be able to:
Analyze the founding documents of the United States and Texas to guide close reading and discussion with students.
Design instruction that cultivates informed American patriotism and civic responsibility.
Implement civics teaching strategies aligned to Senate Bill 3 requirements.
Apply content knowledge and skills to lead meaningful student exploration of foundational civic principles.
Start the school year strong by exploring systems, routines, planning structures, classroom movement & transitions, building class relationships, and instructional practices that create organized, engaging, and effective Social Studies classrooms. Teachers will examine strategies for classroom management, lesson preparation, resource organization, and establishing expectations that support student success throughout the year.
