The Special Education Department Chair and Team Leader Orientation is a required training designed to prepare campus leaders to effectively support special education programming, compliance, instructional practices, and collaborative systems at their campuses. Participants will develop a clear understanding of district expectations, leadership responsibilities, compliance requirements, and processes related to special education service delivery. The session will provide guidance on supporting case managers and teachers, monitoring program implementation, utilizing district systems and resources, and fostering collaborative partnerships with campus administrators, general education staff, and families to improve outcomes for students receiving special education services.


By the end of this training, participants will be able to:
  • Define the roles and responsibilities of the Special Education Department Chair and Team Leader in supporting campus special education programs.
  • Identify federal, state, and district compliance requirements related to special education service delivery and documentation.
  • Monitor and support implementation of IEPs, accommodations, modifications, progress monitoring, and service documentation.
  • Utilize district systems and resources, including eSped and other required documentation tools, to ensure compliance and data accuracy.
  • Analyze campus special education data to identify trends, address concerns, and support data-driven instructional decision-making.
  • Facilitate effective communication and collaboration among special education staff, general education teachers, administrators, related service providers, and families.
  • Support teachers with instructional best practices, inclusive practices, and problem-solving strategies to improve student outcomes.
  • Develop action steps for leading campus-based special education teams and ensuring alignment with district expectations and initiatives.
